Soaring Gas Prices Taking a Toll on Your Commute?

Can be found in the Category: Personal Perspective - 27 May 2008

gas is four dollarsThe news about the cost of gasoline is not good. I am not a fatalist or one of those guys who is stockpiling goods in Montana for the big financial crash.

Maybe I should be.

I must admit, I did not believe that we would see $4 a gallon gas this quickly. Recently I read that we are likely to hit $200+ a barrel, with $6 pump prices. I believe it will happen. In Britain, they are paying $8 a gallon. Actually, in just about every other part of the world, gas is more expensive.

We have all read about the cost of diesel, up again today at $4.68 in my neighborhood and the effect on food prices. Well, my Green Mountain coffee just went up a buck in a week. Drinking coffee in the morning with my wife just got 13% more expensive. I don’t like it.

I remember when I budgeted $80 for gas for a month. I am up to $350 now. That is like a car payment and I don’t like it.

Driving to work is getting expensive. People are selling their houses to move closer to their office. The typical corporate merit pool increases are not even going to keep up with inflation. No one likes that.

Considering a gallon of Budweiser is $11, gas is still cheaper than beer. Whew…

What are you doing to combat the increasing cost of driving your vehicle?
